Tectone Calls Zenless Zone Zero Main Character the ‘Worst’

Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail streamer Tectone gave his initial impressions of the Zenless Zone Zero closed beta. According to the One True King personality, HoYoVerse has some serious problems with the design of their new “boring” male main character.

In a video titled “My Brutally Honest Thoughts on Zenless Zone Zero,” uploaded on his YouTube channel, Tectone gave his feedback on HoYoVerse’s upcoming title. In the 18-minute breakdown, the OTK streamer criticized the Zenless Zone Zero MC. “I honestly think he is the worst character in the game, and unfortunately, he’s the main character,” he said. “I think he looks stupid. I feel like he is stupid. I feel like his emotions are non-existent. I feel like he is boring as shit.”

However, Tectone praised HoYoverse’s design of the female MC in Zenless Zone Zero, stating: “The female main character is incredible. She is quirky, lighthearted, funny, and, get this… actually looks good. I feel like the male MC looks like a worse version or prototype version of the Honkai: Star Rail MC. And the reason that really bothers me is because we are going to have to interact with him a lot.”

The Star Rail streamer further explained that the Male MC’s barely “passable” design is no longer good enough for a 2024 title from HoYoVerse and that the protagonist really needs to be “phenomenal” to interest players.

Although the OTK streamer was not a fan of the male MC in Zenless Zone Zero, he had positive things to say about the upcoming game. In the same video, Tectone praised Zenless Zone Zero character animations and how the game’s overworld looks. He was also a fan of the game’s combat. However, he did have an issue with how HoYoVerse implements the battle mechanics.

“The combat feels very good when we are allowed to do it. Where have we heard that before? Oh yeah…Genshin Impact. Unfortunately, Zenless Zone Zero feels like a TV simulator rather than a combat-oriented game. Which is incredibly frustrating when we are just waffling about in TV land for about half an hour before we get to kill something in 30 seconds.”

Over on X or Twitter, Tectone revealed that he believes that fans of HoYoVerse should give constructive feedback so that Zenelss Zone Zero can be improved before its launch. The streamer said he wants to do a podcast with other creators to discuss the game’s current state during its closed beta.

The Zenless Zone Zero closed beta is now live for select players and content creators. The game will come to the PC, mobile devices, and unspecified consoles
