Star Ocean: The Second Story R Update Ups Difficulty, Adds Endings Gallery

Square Enix released a new Star Ocean: The Second Story R free game update that, among other things, adds a Chaos difficulty and endings gallery. There are also a number of features added related to endgame elements. All of them are showcased in a new trailer.

Editor’s Note: There are some spoilers regarding Star Ocean: The Second Story R enemies below.

Some of the new elements don’t involve spoilers. For example, the hardest Chaos difficulty level will be present in Star Ocean: The Second Story R. That is more difficult than Universe, the previous highest level. The Character Graphics Collection lets you see facial expressions that might have otherwise passed by too quickly during story segments. There will be new weapons for each character, and new armor and accessories. The portion of the trailer introducing the equipment showed crafting segments, so it is possible you may need to make them. Also, important NPCs like Allen and Regis now have character portraits during story segments.

Some of the additions are postgame elements. For example, you’ll only see the Star Ocean: The Second Story R Endings Collection gallery, the Ten Wise Men Raid enemies, and Ten Wise Men Assault Actions after you beat the game. The Ten Wise Men will also have different Leader Skills.

Here’s the trailer showing the additions. Note that some of the Ten Wise Men raid fights are shown.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
