In a recent financial results briefing, Square Enix vaguely touched upon plans to expand into emerging markets in the future. The company pointed out that consoles are becoming more common in the Middle East and Central/South America, which might represent an opportunity.

In addition to the aforementioned territories, Brazil and Russia are two others Square Enix are taking an interest in. Russia in particular is considered a challenging market to break into, Square said, although the region thrives on free-to-play and online games, which will be the key to breaking in.

“[Russia and Brazil] are also home to many talented developers, which are justifications to consider Russia in many options, including sourcing for development studios,” company president Yosuke Matsuda said. “In brief, the Company is expected to reach out to wider regions in its efforts to expand the business outside of the domestic market.”
