Insomniac has announced it will release a patch to fix the flag in Miles Morales’s apartment in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The developer had accidentally mixed up countries. [Thanks, Culture Crave!]
There is a Puerto Rico flag in Miles’s room as a celebration of his roots. Or, at least, there was supposed to be. Instead, in the game proper, it’s Cuba’s flag rather than Puerto Rico’s. The flag of Cuba and the flag of Puerto Rico look fairly similar as they both have a single star in a triangle on the left side of the design, with five alternating and equal horizontal stripes.
Both flags also use a red, blue, and white color scheme. However, the flag of Puerto Rico has a blue triangle and red-and-white alternating stripes. Meanwhile, the flag of Cuba (and the flag that you see in the game) has a red triangle and blue-and-white alternating stripes.
Aside from this mishap, references to Puerto Rican culture are abundant in the streets of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. A lot of the stores and graffiti on the walls, as well as Miles’s home, reference real Puerto Rican experiences. Due to this, it is unclear how Insomniac could have overlooked this mistake, even if the flags look very similar.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available as a PS5 exclusive.
