Digital Manga Publishing’s eManga website now has the legendary Speed Racer manga by Tatsuo Yoshida up for reading (rental, not download). Volume 1 will set you back about $6.50, while volume 2 costs $8.00.
Another alternative is to read the series chapter-by-chapter, though, this is a more expensive proposition. Each chapter costs $2.00, which brings your total purchase cost up to $20.
eManga operates using “points” as currency. 1,000 points cost $10. Here’s how the rental system works:
“Once you have signed up for an account, you can use eManga to read free samples of our titles. For most of our titles, you also have the option to read the entire book by spending eManga Points to “rent” the title for a limited amount of time (currently 72 hours). If you later decide to rent the same title again, it will be automatically upgraded to an “unlimited” rental, which does not have time restrictions.”
It isn’t the most elegant solution, but it’s there for anyone that doesn’t have a problem with the concept of rentals. One of the advantages of eManga is that it also hosts original works by aspiring and professional manga-ka.
