A new Space Invaders smartwatch, developed in collaboration with Taito, is now live on Kickstarter. The SPACE INVADERS: My Play Watch campaign launched on September 25, 2024, and will run until October 25, 2024. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
The campaign has a funding goal of 2,865,965 yen (approximately $19,250 USD), and early backers can pledge $60 USD (approximately 8,598 yen) to secure one of the limited-edition smartwatches. After the initial 48 hours, the price will increase to $75 USD. Backers can choose between three colors: red, yellow, and blue.
The Space Invaders smartwatch comes pre-installed with an optimized version of the original game, complete with its original music and additional content. It also includes exercise tracking, heart rate monitoring, and features a 1.86-inch (about 4.7 cm) screen. The watch is 11mm thick (about 0.43 inches) and has a 22mm (approximately 0.87 inches) band width.
In related news, a year ago, Seiko released a special edition Space Invaders watch to celebrate the game’s 45th anniversary. Limited to only 1,978 units worldwide, the watch was priced at ¥54,780 yen (approximately $375) and became available through the Premico online store.
