The Sonic Frontiers Showdown trailer emphasizes Sonic’s conflict with a mysterious new group of enemies. A voice exhorts Sonic to seek out the Chaos Emeralds, “tear down the walls between dimensions,” and “destroy the titans. Those titans are the various massive-scale foes that Sonic will encounter throughout the Starfall Islands. Some include a fish-like monster that swims through the desert with Sonic hanging onto its tail. Another appears to flee from Sonic while he pursues at speed, running along a “road” that the monster trails behind itself to catch up. Other boss fight mechanics will have Sonic using the environment to set up fight arenas, bouncing off the walls to damage a boss, and employing a powerful speed-attack that leaves afterimages as Sonic attacks from multiple angles.

The trailer also shows glimpses of Sage, the new character connected to the monsters, who plays a major role in Sonic Frontiers. The Showdown trailer concludes with a shot of Sonic gathering all the Chaos Emeralds and using them to transform into Super Sonic to confront an even larger, more humanoid-looking titan.

Sonic Frontiers launches on November 8, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
