Lab Zero Games has added wrestling champ and chair enthusiast Beowulf to the Skullgirls Encore roster on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. But that’s not all. The studio has also changed the name of the upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita version of the game to Skullgirls 2nd Encore.

The renaming is on account of these versions of the game having new characters, new modes, and features not available in Skullgirls Encore. However, the title is similar to reflect the fact that they’ll still have cross-play with the PS3 version.

Additionally, the PS4 and PS Vita versions will be cross-buy enabled, so if you buy it on one platform you get it on the other at no extra cost. As owners of the PS3 version won’t be able to get the new content for free the cross-buy doesn’t apply to them.

Moving on to the addition of Beowulf: he’s the game’s second male character after Big Band, and comes wearing a wolf pelt over his big hairy arms. Beowulf retired as a professional cruiserweight wrestler after defeating Grendel, as well as his mom after she nearly ate the entire audience, which he considers the height of his career (he won 32 fights and lost none).

Beowulf and Grendel are drawn directly from the Old English epic poem Beowulf, in which the titular warrior defeated the monster Grendel. In Skullgirls Encore, Beowulf uses Grendel’s severed arm as a weapon, as well as flat-packed chairs that you’d typically see used in a wrestling ring.

Lastly, Lab Zero Games released a new work-in-progress video that shows off the final Skullgirls DLC character, Robo-Fortune, who is almost complete. “She’s got lasers galore, tons of puns, and comes with our most ambitious stage yet,” writes Lab Zero.

Robo-Fortune will be added in the near future. You can watch the video below.
