Creative director Yoko Taro is teaming up with NieR composer Keiichi Okabe for a new smartphone game with fairytale characters called SINoALICE. Its first gameplay trailer gives us a look at how it plays.

The characters in SINoALICE all share the wish of “reviving the author,” and they’ll help each other out at times but also kill each other too in a game that will throw you in the worst possible scenarios. You’ll advance through the “Cross Story” system with your favorite character’s story in omnibus-fashion. As you continue through each character’s story, you’ll begin to see more of their relations.

Other than the main story, there are “Weapon Stories” as seen in other Yoko Taro games, along with “Job Stories” that are related to character jobs. The battles are in real-time and there’s an “Auto Mode” option to have done automatically.

SINoALICE launches in Japan in Spring 2017 for iPhone and Android. Check out our earlier reports for a look at characters designs for Alice, Snow White, Akazukin, Ibara Hime, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Hansel & Gretel, and Kaguya Hime.
