On September 27, 2024, the X (formerly known as Twitter) account for singer-songwriter Sayuri announced that she died at the age of 28 years old. Her husband Amaarashi made several posts on his account in regards to her passing as well.
The official statement on Sayuri’s account, which Amaarashi wrote, revealed that she’d passed away on September 20, 2024. It did not state what the cause of death was. However, Amaarashi mentioned chronic illness in his eulogy to her. Her funeral was a private one and the announcement thanks her fans for all of their support. The announcement asks those in the media to refrain from interview requests, as it is a time of deep grief for her family and friends. On his personal Twitter account, Amaarashi also gave his final farewell to Sayuri, saying that he was happy he was her husband and thanking her for choosing him.
Sayuri made her major debut in 2015 when she released “Mikazuki,” which appeared as the ending theme for Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace. She also sang songs for Erased, Scum’s Wish, Fate/Extra Last Encore, Golden Kamuy, and Lycoris Recoil. In July 2024, she’d announced that she would go on hiatus due to functional dysphonia making it difficult to sing. Not only does functional dysphonia cause scratchiness in the throat, but it also affects the voice, making it sound strained or soft.
