When it comes to Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games promised fans three free updates. Each one would follow one of the Knights of the Order of No Quarter. We’d already seen the Plague of Shadows expansion, which followed Plague Knight, and knew Specter Knight and King Knight expansions would follow. At The Game Awards 2016, we learned Specter Knight’s Specter of Torment would be the second campaign and arrive in spring 2017.

In Shovel Knight’s Specter of Torment, players get to follow Specter Knight before the events of the main game. The Enchantress has tasked him with founding her Order of No Quarter. His storyline involves all new areas, bosses, enemies, equipment, music, objects, and strategies for boss knights. Yacht Club notes it is creating this prequel expansion in such a way that it could act as a standalone experience.

Shovel Knight is available for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Fire TV. Specter of Torment will be a free update for all platforms.
