Using the Speak With Animals spell in Baldur’s Gate 3 opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the player. You are able to chat with any creature you come across, including the Strange Ox. This is a recurring character you can talk to that has a sinister secret. But you may wonder if you find out what’s going on and perhaps kill the Strange Ox in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Should You Kill the Strange Ox in Baldur’s Gate 3?
There are two options you have when it comes to dealing with the Strange Ox in Baldur’s Gate 3: let it go about its life or murder it for a special reward. Personally, I only recommend killing it if you are a Druid. To do this, you first need to meet the Strange Ox at the Emerald Grove near the beginning of the game while using Speak With Animals.
Talk to it to find out that there is more to this ox than meets the eye, but it wants nothing more than to reach the city of Baldur’s Gate. You don’t learn much here and have to go about your business until you reach Act 2, where you can see it again at the Last Light Inn.
Here, you can finally find out the Strange Ox’s true identity if you press it enough times and pass a couple of skill checks. However, if you insist on learning its true form, you’ll immediately enter into a battle and have to kill the Strange Ox.
Its true form is an Ooze-type enemy, which has shapeshifted to pretend to be an ox. If you kill it here, you’ll receive the Shapeshifter’s Boon ring, which is excellent for Druid players due to its dice roll bonus.
Alternatively, you can leave it alone and see it once again in the city of Baldur’s Gate where it is happily living its life in peace. Sadly, you don’t get a reward in this route for giving this Ooze a chance to fulfill its dreams.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PCs and will release for the PS5 on September 6, 2023.
