Upon visiting the 60th anniversary website, the following message appears:

Segata Sanshiro Sega 60th anniversary

“Hello!! Sega fans

Do you really love Sega!?

Wait a little longer for the site to open♪”

As for the Segata Sanshiro teaser, it shows the top image with a countdown leading to March 25, 2020. It also says “Sega 60th anniversary Ambassador” so we can expect to hear from the legendary mascot on the 25th.

Last year, he guest-starred in a Sega Fes stage event to celebrate the Sega Saturn’s 25th anniversary.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Segata Sanshiro, he is a Sega Saturn mascot portrayed by actor Hiroshi Fujioka. The character is a parody based on the 1943 film Sanshiro Sugata‘s judo fighter protagonist. He appeared in numerous ads for the console from 1997 to 1998.  In his final ad for the Sega Saturn, before the launch of the Dreamcast, he saved Sega’s headquarters by jumping on a rocket and redirecting it into space.

You can check out his full heroics in the above video, with the final act at around the 7:21 mark.

Sega was first founded on June 3, 1960.
