To celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary, Sega released a new browser game titled Earth UFO Catcher, which will only be available for a limited time. The game is accessed via QR code and is only playable on smartphones.
Essentially, how it works is that you click Catch Start, then use tokens in order to activate the arm to catch prizes. The prizes can be found in any part of the world and are all based on characters or objects from Sega’s history.
There is also a Digital Library. In it, you can see your entire collection of everything you have found and also see where others have collected items. By choosing an object you haven’t earned, you can complete challenges to obtain them easier, rather than earning them at random. There are a total of 139 “prizes.”
That said, there are some actual prize elements to this. Ten lucky players who are able to collect all 139 prizes in Earth UFO Catcher will receive a Sega 60th Anniversary commemorative coin from Sega itself.
