2011 marks a lot of anniversaries. It marks the 15th anniversary of Resident Evil, the 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest and The Legend of Zelda, and the 15th anniversary of Pokémon. It also marks the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Naturally, Sega have something planned to celebrate the event, and they’ve been teasing it over Facebook and Twitter. A tweet from their official Twitter account:

“Sonic’s 20th Anniversary is this year, but SEGA start celebrating on 7th April and you’ll only find out how on the Sonic Facebook page!”

This is the Facebook page they’re referring to, in case you want to keep an eye on it. This tease comes just months after a Sega representative at an event in Madrid, Spain reportedly mentioned plans for an upcoming “Sonic Anniversary” title to fansite, Sonic Paradise, in October 2010. It is believed that this title will be a compilation of past Sonic the Hedgehog stages, adapted for modern consoles.
