Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the Sonic‘s second entry in what Sega calls the Mega Drive series. The video describes the game as a highly popular title and masterpiece within the series, known for its improved sense of speed and feel. It didn’t take long for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to garner critical acclaim after its 1992 release, which also saw the debut of Tails.

Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has three modes. Original Mode is what was on the original Mega Drive version. Next is Ring Keep Mode which starts you out with 10 rings which get halved each time you get hit. Lastly, there’s Super Sonic Mode that starts you out with all 7 Chaos Emeralds and 50 rings. You can simply transform into Super Sonic by jumping while holding 50 rings or more.

As far as other new additions go, the Sega Ages version adds the Drop Dash ability from Sonic Mania. There’s also a counter for “Ring Chain” and “Max Ring Chain” at the bottom of the screen. And of course, the game will feature split-screen co-op just like the original version.

We previously reported that Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will also be in the Sega Ages version. This feature was originally available by inserting the Sonic 2 cartridge into the Sonic & Knuckles cart.

Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now available for Nintendo Switch in Japan for 999 yen via eShop. The game will release in North America and Europe on February 20, 2020.
