Takara Tomy will release new gacha toys that makes various Sanrio mascots look like sushi. They’ll appear in gacha machines from mid-March 2024, and it’ll cost 300 JPY ($2) per try. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]
In total, there are five different variations you can get. You can either get Hello Kitty, Pochacco, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, or Keroppi. All of the Sanrio mascots except for Keroppi are in the nigiri style, with the neta (topping) on their back like a backpack. Keroppi is in a gunkan style. Hello Kitty has what looks like tuna on her back, My Melody has shrimp, Cinnamoroll has tamago, and Pochacco has salmon. Meanwhile, Keroppi just has seaweed around him. Part of the charm, according to Takara Tomy, is how surreal these toys look, between the sushi aesthetic and the blank expressions on the toys’ faces.
Other Sanrio merchandise coming out in the near future includes collaboration goods with Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Demon School Iruma-kun, and Oshi no Ko. You’ll also be able to get Sanrio shirts from Uniqlo in May 2024. For these goods, you’ll be able to buy them directly rather than have to pull for them from a gacha.
The Sanrio sushi gacha toys will appear in Japan from mid-March 2024.
