Tecmo Koei’s Samurai Warriors series appears to be doing well on the Nintendo 3DS, and we’re likely going to see more of it on there.

The publisher released Samurai Warriors: Chronicles as a Nintendo 3DS launch game back in 2011, and the game sold nearly 50,000 copies in its first week. By the end of the year, it had sold 146,517 copies.

Then, in September 2012, Tecmo Koei followed up with Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd, which wasn’t an entirely new game, but rather an enhanced update of the original with more content. This game sold close to 34,000 copies in its debut week.

We haven’t seen updated figures for Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd since, but series producer, Hisashi Koinuma, reports that the game has continued to sell well.

Over Twitter, Koinuma stated: “I cannot begin to express how overjoyed I am that [Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd] has continued to sell to the year’s end. Thank you! Just a bit more in sales, and we can start thinking about the next game, so please keep at it!”

Tecmo Koei recently made Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd available as a Nintendo eShop download title for a slightly cheaper price, so that may have added to overall sales as well.
