At the end of the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Pyra and Mythra presentation, Director Masahiro Sakurai talked about their reveal. He mentioned how people might have noticed the SSBU Pyra trailer felt different. It turns out, it is the only one he didn’t write the script for. Instead, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 developer Monolith Soft handled it.
Sakurai explained that the team trusted Monolith Soft with the script for the video. While he and his team were still involved, particularly with the script and video for the SSBU Pyra and Mythra gameplay segments of the reveal video, he didn’t play as big of a part overall. The CG segment and script were both “trusted” to Monolith Soft, to make sure it felt authentic. He reviewed the CG. Sakurai’s team also created the audio track for the reveal.
As a reminder, here’s what the Pyra and Mythra SSBU reveal trailer looked like. It was the February 2021 Nintendo Direct’s first announcement. Monolith Soft’s part appears up until Pyra reveals her invitation.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch. The SSBU Pyra and Mythra DLC will appear later on March 4, 2021. So will an assortment of Ghosts ‘n Goblins and Monster Hunter Mii Fighter costumes.
