Back in September, a studio named Firebrand announced that they were developing a Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs game for the Nintendo 3DS and iPhone. This game is now also coming to the Wii, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The iPhone appears to have been removed from the list of targeted platforms.
Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is being designed as an on-rails shooter for release in 2012. The game will feature the anime series’ original voice cast — though we aren’t sure if this pertains to both the German and English versions — and the soundtrack will be based off the original as well. Here’s a storyboard prototype video:
Unsurprisingly, Firebrand haven’t managed to find a publisher for Saber Rider so far; the game is being developed using crowdfunding. With the help of fan donations in exchange for prizes, Firebrand have managed to accumulate around €15,500 for their development fund, from 153 donators.
Interestingly, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs started out on the GBA in 2005. It then moved to the Nintendo DS in 2006, before Firebrand finally settled on the current platforms. Here’s a look at some older assets from the game’s Facebook page:
