Warner Japan are set to film a live-action Rurouni Kenshin film starting this month, according to a report at Variety. Playing the lead role of Himura Kenshin will be Takeru Sato (right), who recently starred in 2010’s Beck.

Warner are targeting a 2012 release Rurouni Kenshin movie. The film will be directed by Keishi Otomo, a director of dramas for broadcaster NHK in Japan. The rest of the film’s cast has not yet been revealed.

Other Rurouni Kenshin projects currently in the works are a new anime feature — although it’s unknown as to whether this will be a long-running series or will take on some other format — and re-mastered Blu-Ray re-releases of the two OVAs and anime films.
