Viz Media recently published the last volume of the popular Rurouni Kenshin in North America. Now that the series is complete just what does the creator Nobuhiro Watsuki have in store for his fans? Over at Comic-Con it was revealed that Viz Media will begin publishing Buso Renkin (Alchemic Weapon) in North America. After Kazuki Mutou saves the life of a girl, Mutou-san is given the core iron and more importantly a new beginning. With the power of the core Kazuki can create alchemic weapons otherwise known as Buso Renkin. With his new found powers he joins up with the girl he saved to battle monsters and to protect the world he knows. Watsuki-san made an interesting comparison about the Buso Renkin series. He considered Kenshin as a character he would look up to and admire. The characters in Buso Renkin are people that Watsuki-san would want to be friends with. Buso Renkin also has an anime series in development, which begins airing later this year in Japan.

So what about Kenshin? Could there ever be a return of the wandering samurai even in a one shot OVA? When Watsuki-san was asked this question he paused for a little while before responding. Currently he is not planning any kind of sequel to Kenshin. However he enjoys the Meiji era, which Kenshin is set in. If he creates another story in that era some Kenshin characters may make an appearance.
