Rune Factory 5 will feature a combat system similar to previous titles, which will allow players to switch between a handful of weapons. A total of eight weapons will be available for players to choose from. This includes the two-handed sword, a short sword, twin swords, a lance, hammer, cane, axe, and fists. The combat will function somewhat similarly to how it did in Rune Factory 4, with the exception of a few unique skills. Players can unlock more skills for their weapon of choice by using it in combat over a period of time.

Rune Abilities will also make a return in Rune Factory 5. Rune Abilities can be changed at any time and are used to perform special attacks. Additionally, an entirely new skill will make a debut in Rune Factory 5. This new skill is called “Seed Circle,” which allows for players to temporarily stop an enemy and “connect” with a monster. Upon “connecting” with a monster, that monster can then join the party for a limited period of time.

Additionally, players will be able to take NPCs they have become friends with into combat in Rune Factory 5. This means that you will be able to take any character you’ve raised a high enough affinity with into battle. Marriage candidates are included. Taking an NPC into battle with you more than once can also raise the level of the character you’ve taken with you.

Rune Factory 5Ā will launch for the Nintendo SwitchĀ in Japan on May 20, 2021. A Western release is planned for 2021.
