Dawnkeeper: Last Survivors, the RPG / Strategy game by Planemo Studio, has players trying to defend themselves from hordes of enemies.

The 2D game puts players in the shoes of one of three playable heroes—an archer, a fighter, or a wizard. Each hero has their own unique set of skills that can be leveled up via a fairly in-depth skill tree. The goal of the game is to protect yourself from hordes of enemies as they desperately try to destroy your barrier and reach your hero.

Dawnkeeper’s gameplay is far from complex, although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Players can only move up or down on the battlefield while firing basic attacks from a distance, while enemies only charge straight forward. It sounds simple, but it puts the emphasis not on moving but instead on skills.

Each character class has a unique set of skills that can be unlocked by leveling up. These include having lightning attack a group of foes if the mage is being used, or a rain of arrows if the archer is being used, among many other skills.

The trick is knowing which skill to use and level up the most. Leveling up the wrong skill can prove to be deadly for upcoming levels. The other element to Dawnkeeper that makes the game interesting are all the various pieces of equipment that can be obtained. Armor, weapons, rings, and various potions can be bought or found to really give a hero an edge in battle. Like with the skills, picking the right pieces of equipment can mean the difference between winning or losing a level.

While there is a fairly lengthy set of campaign chapters that players can choose to do, there is also a simple survival mode. The goal there is to simply survive as long as possible against slews of enemies, giving players a chance to fully test their skills.

Dawnkeeper: Last Survivors is currently available on both iOS and Android, and it has been Greenlit on Steam as well.
