Retro Revival: Spider Man on the 2600

This article is over 17 years old and may contain outdated information

While North America is getting ready to see Spider Man 3 this weekend and some fans are drooling over Treyarch’s “next-gen” Spider Man game, I’m reminded of the first Spider Man video game made by Parker Brothers for the Atari 2600. For an Atari game Spider Man doesn’t look that bad, you can actually distinguish the Marvel hero in his traditional red and blue costume. The goal of the game is to climb the yellow building and diffuse the bomb. Spider Man can shoot web and pull himself up or swing side to side to catch criminals before they cut his web line to the building. Sure, the game is dated and it isn’t more complicated than a portable Tiger Electronic handheld, but what more can you expect from an Atari 2600 game?
