Resident Evil 4 is available on many consoles, but the Wii version of the game has fantastic controls that make use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for aiming and movement. Similarly, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition supports Sony’s PlayStation Move controller on the PlayStation 3.
Since Nintendo’s new Wii U console can use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers as well, some developers have been including support for those in their shooters. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on Wii U allows one to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as an optional control scheme, as does Pikmin 3.
Unfortunately, Resident Evil: Revelations, which is headed to the Wii U—alongside PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions—will not allow for Wii Remote pointer controls.
Capcom’s Mike Lumm confirmed on the company forums: “Unfortunately [Revelations] is only supported by the Wii-U gamepad at the moment. We’re doing what we can to get the new classic controller compatibility, but the game’s not setup to track motions from the wii-remote at this time.”
Hopefully, the “at this time” indicates that Capcom will be willing to patch Wii Remote—and PlayStation Move support if it isn’t included—into the Wii U and PlayStation 3 versions of the game at a later date.
