Resident Evil Village Revealed for PlayStation 5 (Updated)

The next numbered Resident Evil has been revealed during Sony’s PlayStation 5 stream, and it looks like the earlier leaks were on the money. The full title appears to be Resident Evil 8: Village, and both Ethan Winters from Resident Evil 7 and the O.G. Chris Redfield are back. The trailer was full of wild imagery, both looking right out of the same style book as 7, but also pushing the series into new horror territory.

The earlier leaks from Rely on Horror were pointing to an occult theme, and that seems exactly like what’s happening in the trailer. We see old architecture, supernatural forces beyond zombies, and yeah – there’s a werewolf. We also see hints at opposition between Ethan and Chris, but as the leaks suggested, there could be a strain on the player’s psyche as a gameplay element as well.

Update: A PlayStation Blog post has laid out the official title, which is just Resident Evil Village. It’s slated for a 2021 release, and is still considered Resident Evil 8, of course.

Resident Evil Village is set a few years after the previous game. Ethan and Mia’s attempt to live a quiet life away from the madness they encountered in Louisiana is going well… until Chris Redfield shows up. What follows is a journey through a mysterious village covered in snow, and according to the post this sequel will have a greater emphasis on exploration and combat.
