More details emerged about Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake characters. An update to the game’s official website includes renders and biographies for characters that, had yet to appear in previews of the remake.
The Resident Evil 4 remake characters featured in the website update include previously-seen ones like Leon S. Kennedy, Ashley Graham, and Luis Serra. Characters like Ada Wong, Bitores Mendez, Ramon Salazar, and Leon’s operator Ingrid Hunnigan all appear in the updated list, as well, with pictures to show off their remade appearances. Brief bio information also appears to describe their roles in the game. Even the Ganados (infected villagers), the Chainsaw Villager who chases Leon around, and the weapon-selling Merchant make the cut.
Aside from characters, the Resident Evil 4 remake features updated visuals and gameplay mechanics from the original. The transition isn’t as dramatic as in the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, since RE4 was already a third-person action shooter to begin with. However, the jump in graphical quality and the change in art style from the GameCube original makes for a different atmosphere, one with more emphasis on shadows, nighttime scenes, and dramatic lighting.
Characters also have updated designs, usually focusing on adjusting their outfits for a more practical look or to account for more realistic facial features. Over-the-top designs like the “Napoleon-like” stature of Ramon Salazar and the massive figure of Bitores Mendez are still visible, though.
Resident Evil 4 remake is in development for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It launches on March 24, 2023. On the PS5, it will support VR mode via the PSVR 2 hardware.
