Now that the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter has been revealed and dated, there’s the other typical result of this sort of add-on. A new SSBU update is on the way. This will take the game up to 8.0 alongside the June 29, 2020 launch of Min Min, and Nintendo has issued the usual warning to help people prepare.
Essentially, this is the time to back things up. This is old hat by now. Whenever these sorts of SSBU updates occur, people need to back up their replay data before it happens. The tweet below, as usual, explains what to do.
Ver. 8.0 of Super #SmashBrosUltimate will arrive within one week! This update includes fighter adjustments, meaning replay data from previous versions will be incompatible. Convert your replays by going to Vault -> Replays -> Replay Data -> Convert to Video, before updating. pic.twitter.com/4C2YRHRdB1

The last major SSBU update was 7.0, which appeared alongside Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ Byleth. It added new Spirits from past events, DLC compatibility, and fighter rebalancing. The 8.0 update will also add a new Spirits feature for taking part in rematches and keeping track of scores.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch.
