Someone can’t be an active member to use it. They should also double check their eShop settings after redeeming a code, to make sure the automatic renewal option is off and you don’t end up paying for a monthly membership without realizing it. Once people have a code, they can use it between the time they get it and November 9, 2020.

The offer has come up at a time when a lot of potential activities are happening, giving people a chance to put a free Nintendo Switch Online trial through its paces. Super Mario Bros. 35 launched in October 2020 for members. The Overwatch free game trial is running until October 20, 2020. There will be a Splatoon 2 Halloween Splatfest on October 30, 2020.

The Nintendo Switch Online seven-day trial is available through My Nintendo. It is normally $3.99 per month, $7.99 per three months, and $19.99 for a year for a single-person membership. The Family Membership option for up to eight users is $34.99 per year.
