A shift in power is about to occur at Nintendo of America. Reggie Fils-Aime, the current President and COO, is going to retire on April 15, 2019. Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser will then step into the role of president of the company.
Fils-Aime has been with Nintendo of America for over 15 years, with over 13 of them as president. He joined in 2003 as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, a role similar to the one Bowser currently holds. He then became president in 2006.
Bowser has been with Nintendo of America almost four years. His first position in the company was as Vice President of Sales when he joined in 2015. In 2016, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Fils-Aime provided the following statement in a press release:
“Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude–for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”
Bowser also offered the following statement on the announcment:
“It has been my great fortune to work with and be mentored by Reggie for four years at Nintendo of America,” Bowser said. “And rest assured, we will continue to build on his work to evolve and expand our brand, furthering Nintendo’s global mission of creating smiles. There are millions more of those to come.”
