Warner Bros Discovery announced it will shut down Rooster Teeth. General Manager Jordan Levin, who became head of the studio in September 2019 following layoffs, announced the closure on March 6, 2024. [Thanks, Variety!]
The announcement came with some details about what will happen next for some of the company’s properties and projects. The Roost Podcast Network will continue. Season 19 of the Halo series Red vs Blue, called Restoration, will apparently still roll out in 2024 as planned.
As for the Rooster Teeth currently running projects, Warner Bros is looking to sell the IPs for RWBY and Gen:Lock from the creator. Only two seasons of Gen:Lock appeared. The last season of RWBY was volume 9, which showed up on Crunchyroll in February 2023. Licensing Manager Geoff Yetter did note in January 2023 that planning started for volume 10, but it wasn’t greenlit at the time.
Rooster Teeth was also known for making games, in addition to media projects. Many of these involved RWBY, like RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. A Switch version of that appeared in 2021. However, one of the most recent titles based on the series was RWBY: Arrowfell.
There’s no official announcement on the official company site yet. It launched back in April 2023. The company was about to turn 21 on April 1, 2024.
