Who said P.T. was dead? Konami may have taken the playable teaser for Silent Hills away from our PlayStation 4 but that hasn’t stopped one fan recreating it for PC.
Farhan Qureshi is a 3D modeller, game developer, and P.T. fan. He spent about 104 hours over four weeks working on PuniTy, which he started as a project for a 3D modelling workshop that he teaches in Calgary. “At first I just wanted to make the PT hallway, then started adding sounds and…other things out of obsession,” Qureshi writes.
To manage the recreation in such high detail, Qureshi uploaded screenshots directly from the PS4 version of P.T. through the Twitter account @ptscreenshots. “However, all the twitter pictures by default are shrunken in size,” explains Qureshi, “so to get the original 1080p versions I found the link to the picture (in chrome, use F12 to view source, click the magnifying glass on the top left, then click a picture in twitter) and appended “:orig” to the end to retrieve the full resolution image.”
From there, he used Blender to create all the models, textured them re-using the photos at times, and then added animations, lighting, camera filters, and sounds to get the final result. Where PuniTy is lacking is in the gameplay but it does have some recognizable events pulled directly from P.T. nonetheless – the bathroom door banging, lights going out, and even the appearance of Lisa’s ghost.
You can download PuniTy for free on the project’s website or on itch.io.
