A new trailer for psychological horror/adventure game Tokyo Dark brings the players into the unsettled mind of Detective Ayami Itō, showing some of the frightening things she will see and experience as her mind unravels on her journey to find her missing partner.
The anime-inspired sidescroller will follow Itō as she combs the streets of Tokyo in search of her partner. She will have to interrogate people she meets, as well as make decisions based on the information she finds and the frightening events she witnesses. These decisions will cause drastic changes to her relationships with the characters and city, leading to different endings, but also altering how she is received should she talk to other characters again. The developers also state that there will be puzzles that can be solved in a variety of ways, allowing for players to also have a great deal of control over the puzzle-solving.
The new trailer shows some jarring imagery of Noh masks, distorted places, and twisted desires at play, demonstrating some of the ways the game will communicate Itō’s deteriorating mental state through visuals and interactions.
Tokyo Dark will be available on September 7, 2017 from Steam. Players can head to the game’s site for more information in the meantime.
