Surprisingly a game starring Toro, the Sony cat, is getting localized. Sony Computer Entertainment Asia plans to release Minnya no Putter Golf, a Sony Cat cross Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds downloadable PlayStation 3 game, in English and Chinese this December. To promote the game Sony is throwing a contest asking users to submit a Chinese name for Toro. Since an English version of Minnya no Putter Golf is in development it’s possible Toro might officially appear in a North America. However, Sony Computer Entertainment America passed on other translated PSN games like Dark Mist so there isn’t any guarantee we’re getting Minnya no Putter Golf.
Perhaps more interesting than the release of Minnya no Putter Golf is seeing Sony Computer Entertainment Asia continue to aggressively localize games for Asia. Previously, Asian version games were just Japanese games with a sheet of English instructions. Afrika and Aquanaut’s Holiday got actual English releases thanks to them and if this trend continues Sony Computer Entertainment Asia may be a source for games developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan that other regions pass on.
