The latest PS5 firmware update is now live, adding new DualSense features. As with previous updates, this was available for users signed up for beta access since February 6, 2024, the update is now available for all users.
While the new PS5 firmware update is small, there are a couple of changes made to the DualSense controller. These changes are largely audio-based. First of all, the speaker has been enhanced to produce higher volume sound. This is mainly to improve voice chat, making it more audible. Sony has warned that players should look at their volume settings just in case the speakers are now too loud for them.
In addition, the in-built microphone on the DualSense has been enhanced to add additional noise cancellation. This new feature uses machine learning to improve how well it filters out background noise. Button presses being so close to the mic are one significant example Sony stated they wanted to filter out with this feature.
Other features in this firmware update are minimal, however. The Share Screen feature now has the ability for viewers to add visual aids to players, as well as a new emoji feature to allow viewers to react to the gameplay. These features are optional, although they are toggled on by default. The final feature of the new firmware update allows you to adjust the power indicator’s brightness on the PS5.
The new PS5 firmware update is available for download now.
