Denuvo, which is known for its anti-piracy and anti-cheat measures, will be available on the PS5. The company confirmed it is a part of the system’s Tools and Middleware Program. This means that other companies making games could use it to keep people from cheating in games.
In the announcement, Irdeto explained how people will be able to use Denuvo on the PS5. The company noted it would keep people from altering game experiences on the system. This means people wouldn’t be able to cheat to get ahead in single-player, offline games. It would also be implemented to keep online games safer from people who might attempt to get ahead with cheats and exploits.
Denuvo is best known for the anti-tamper and keeping people from playing PC games without acquiring them through the proper channels. However, in some cases its presence does keep games from running as intended. Also, companies who implement it in some PC games might eventually choose to remove it. For example, games like Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 both eventually had it taken out.
Irdeto’s announcement didn’t mention which PS5 games could be among the first to include Denuvo technology or reference any specific companies that might use it.
