If you’re paying a bit more than usual for your PS Plus subscription, I hope you’re into Dragon Quest. This month’s offerings from Sony are led by Japan’s most iconic JRPG franchise, with no less than five full Dragon Quest games available. And if you’re not into Dragon Quest, I also hope you’re into Assassin’s Creed. Ubisoft’s sprawling series of open-world action-adventures helps bulk up the PS Plus Game Catalog for October 2022.
As a reminder, the Game Catalog is the lineup of downloadable games available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers that goes live midway through each month. Those at the basic Essential tier can already claim their free games, which include Injustice 2, Hot Wheels Unleashed, and SUPERHOT.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age headlines the PS Plus Game Catalog October 2022 lineup. It’s the “definitive edition” of Dragon Quest XI, and puts players on the path to heroism as The Luminary, a chosen one in the new world of Erdrea. Other Dragon Quest titles on offer include both Dragon Quest Builders games. The Builders titles blend familiar Dragon Quest looks, environments, and storytelling with a block-based construction and resource-gathering gameplay style. Players will need to explore a sandbox world and use their powers of creation to build their way to prosperity. Lastly, both Dragon Quest Heroes games fill the action quota for the batch. Developed by Dynasty Warriors luminaries at Omega Force, the Dragon Quest Heroes titles bring mass brawling to the fray.
The already-numerous Assassin’s Creed titles on the PS Plus Game Catalog are bolstered even further this month, with the addition of the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles trilogy (China, India, and Russia), Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Combined with July’s slate, that puts the majority of the existing Assassin’s Creed franchise at the fingertips of PS Plus Extra subscribers and above. Notably, some of the games, like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, are marked exclusive to PS4, meaning they’re not actually playable by users attempting to play them through a PS5. Early in the PS5’s launch period, Sony pointed out that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was not “backwards compatible” with the PS5 due to technical issues.
There are games for those not into singular franchises, though. Inside and The Medium bring in a touch of horror, while Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker brings some ninja magic. Lastly, Hohokum and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City add whimsy and color, albeit from opposite ends of the ethical spectrum.
Finally, PS Plus Premium tier subscribers see three remastered Yakuza titles, Limbo, and more added to the Classics archive, available via streaming.
