Time to take advantage of a possible opportunity to get a Pokemon Sword and Shield shiny Wailord. It’s not a given. You won’t get one just for showing up. But the new Max Raid event has begun and, until July 19, 2020, people will have a slight chance of seeing one during a Raid. [Thanks, Serebii!]
First, here’s the tweet confirming the event is on. All you need to do is update your wild area to start seeing the water-based character raids in your game.
7月20日(月)8時59分まで、『ポケモン ソード・シールド』のポケモンの巣で、キングラー・マンタイン・サメハダー・ホエルオー・ブルンゲル・ナマコブシが出現中!

So, the Pokemon Sword and Shield shiny Wailord opportunity isn’t completely guaranteed, as it is one of many water-types appearing during the event and is the rarest encounter. So you could see it, but you will also very likely see a standard Wailord and the following characters too, according to Serebii.
- Carvanha
- Frillish
- Jellicent
- Kingler (Standard and Gigantamax)
- Mantine
- Mantyke
- Pyukumuku
- Sharpedo
- Wailmer
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available for the Nintendo Switch, and people will be able to try and get a shiny Wailord during this new Max Raid event until July 19, 2020. The last Max Raid event had more Gigantamax Coalossals and Copperajahs raids showing up, to help people get those special characters, and there was a shiny Zeraora event before that.
