Pokemon Sword and Shield Halloween Raids Bring Out the Dead

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Halloween is upon us, and that means games are getting in on the activities. Pokemon is no exception, but this isn’t about Pokemon GO’s dressed-up characters. Pokemon Sword and Shield Halloween raids have arrived. Between October 29, 2020 and November 1, 2020, certain ghost-type characters are haunting Wild Area dens and appearing in Max Raids.

A few specific characters are the main stars of this event. Cofagrigus,Gourgeist, Mimikyu, Polteageist, and Trevenant could show up. As usual, the Gourgeists will be available in different sizes. However, more unusually, the news brief on the Nintendo Switch channel for the game noted there will be a higher chance of seeing a shiny Gourgeist in the Max Raid encounters.

This is actually the second set of spooky Max Raid characters. You could consider the earlier Max Raid characters as being a Pokemon Sword and Shield Halloween celebration too. That’s because the prior October 2020 event made it easier for people to encounter Gigantamax Gengar and Grimmsnarl. (The ghost-type and dark-type also offer a similar sort of sinister atmosphere.)

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available for the Nintendo Switch. The Pokemon Sword and Shield Halloween Max Raid event will be around until November 1, 2020. Just make sure you update your Wild Area first, to be certain the characters begin showing up.
