As expected, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature a day 1 patch that is needed to take part in online play. Nintendo offered details about what to expect. Specifically, it warned about how much space a person could need. There has to be “at least 1GB of free space.” Once downloaded, it brings the game up to 1.0.1.
Nintendo also offered a few precursor, typical advisories about the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet day 1 patch. As long as you have enough free space on the system or your microSD card, you’ll be fine. However, anything involving online will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. So if you want to take part in competitive Pokemon Scarlet and Violet matches, engage in online play like Tera Raids, or trade, you will need at the very least the basic membership.
The official announcement also noted the update is needed to get the early purchase bonus. Anyone who buys Pokemon Scarlet or Violet before February 28, 2023 can get a Pikachu. This is being distributed as a Mystery Gift. If you connect to the internet after patching your game, you can get a Pikachu that is a Flying Tera type and arrives knowing the Fly attack.
While there will be a day 1 patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a number of compatibility features won’t be out until 2023. Pokemon GO won’t connect to the new games until 2023. People also will need to wait until 2023 to link to Pokemon Home.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will come to the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.
