When you put together Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone! and Pokémon, you get Nintendo’s latest educational art title, Pokémon Art Academy. In addition to teaching players how to draw Pokémon of all kinds, the game also teaches a variety of art fundamentals and techniques.

In Pokémon Art Academy, you’ll be attending a school that teaches you how to draw Pokémon. It’ll start you out with simple Pokémon to draw, and will gradually give you more challenging ones throughout over 40 types of lessons.

Even if you’re not the best artist out there, don’t worry, as the game will hold your hand and start you out with easy lessons on how to draw Pokémon, such as putting together simple shapes and following examples. There are also “redo” functions, so you won’t need to worry about messing up.

As you advance through the lessons, you’ll unlock tougher ones like the Voltorb course that teaches you about shading and lighting, and one with Jirachi that teaches you to draw with a three-dimensional impression.

Pokémon Art Academy offers all kinds of supplies. Pencils can be used for sketches and making thin lines, outline pens allow you to color over lines without any problems, along with markers and paint to bring out color and a bit of realism to your Pokémon drawings. There are even pastels and sprays to add your own touch.

The Free Paint feature lets you put everything you’ve learned from your lessons to use, and there are over 100 Pokémon you can use for references. You can also use pictures you take with the Nintendo 3DS camera.

Completed drawings can be kept in your album that gives them the form of Pokémon cards. They can also be sent to friends or shared on the Miiverse.

Pokémon Art Academy will be released in Japan on June 19, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
