PlayStation Studios Is Sony’s New First-Party Game Brand

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Sony is doing a little remodeling. Fortunately, this is more a new coat of paint than a major renovation. The company has announced PlayStation Studios. This is a new brand for its existing first-party games. While the company has brought up the new moniker, logo, and opening animation now, people won’t start seeing it in action until the late 2020 PlayStation 5 launch. Once it does make its full debut, it will appear at the beginning of PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and even upcoming Sony PC games like the Horizon: Zero Dawn/em> port. (However, it will not appear as the intro for that specific PC port.) [Thanks, GamesIndustry.biz!]

The PlayStation Studios logo is very reminiscent of all standard PlayStation-related ones. It has the iconic PS in a block, with the word “studios” below it. As for the opening animation shared by the company on Twitter, it reminds people of legendary characters and games. It begins with Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, then offers glimpses of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s Alloy, Ratchet & Clank’s Ratchet and Clank, Kratos from God of War, and finally LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy next to The Last of Us’ Ellie.

Since none of the PlayStation 5 launch titles have been announced, or even hinted at, we don’t know yet which game could end up being the first one to have this animated opening at the beginning of it.

Sony’s first-party games will fall under the PlayStation Studios brand and have the new animation at the end of 2020.
