Sony released details about the games that were the PlayStation Store top downloads for 2021. Lists for both North America and Europe appeared, Each one is broken down into categories representing the most popular PS4, PS5, and PSVR games. There is also a list only representing free-to-play games. However, that category combines both PS4 and PS5 games. The categories include both expected inclusions, like Resident Evil Village and Genshin Impact. However, perhaps more unexpected titles like the over three-year-old Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker show up too.
First, here are the PS4 PlayStation Store Top Downloads of 2021. This is where Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker turned up. It took the number 20 spot in the U.S. and Canada.
Resident Evil Village found its way onto both the North American and European lists. It ended up in ninth place in the U.S. and Canada. However, in Europe it was in twelfth.
Likewise, Genshin Impact ended up among the free-to-play games in the PlayStation Store Top Downloads of 2021 lists for both regions. The placement gap was much smaller for it. In North America, it ended up in sixth place, while in Europe it found itself in fifth.
Finally, the PSVR list ended up being a little more uniform in both regions. For example, the top three are the same in both North America and Europe. In each region, Beat Saber took first place, Job Simulator slipped into second, and Superhot VR ended up in third. The top two are the same in 2021 as they were in 2020.
