Sony announced Cloud Streaming (Beta) for PlayStation Portal, which will allow remote streaming of select games in the PS5 catalog, all without needing an actual PS5 console. As this is still in Beta, there may be some new changes depending on player feedback.
PlayStation Portal is a remote player, allowing for PS5 players to enjoy a “console-quality gaming experience on a handheld device.” As of November 19, 2024, players with PS Portal will be able to cloud stream games, as well as see improved audio refinements and adjustment. You will need to have a PlayStation Plus Premium plan in order to participate in cloud streaming.
Cloud streaming is not new to PlayStation, as it was always part of the PlayStation Plus Premium plan. However, it was previously unavailable on the PlayStation Portal. Now that you can stream games onto your device without needing to turn on your PS5, you can play games that you don’t own without necessarily needing to be in front of your TV or computer screen. Over 120 PS5 games are available, and you can stream up to 1080p/60 fps. Instructions for how to access Cloud Streaming (Beta) are available via the blog post for this update.
Games that are part of Cloud Streaming (Beta) include Ghost of Tsushima, Monster Hunter Rise, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
