This award show is a new version of the PlayStation Awards that has been held annually in Japan, ever since the first PlayStation was launched in 1994. While the criteria for the awards used to mostly count sales performances of PlayStation games in Japan, it also included sales from other Asian countries in recent years.

This year’s awards will see changes in not only the title but also the award categories and criteria. Three Grand Awards will be awarded to titles developed by Japanese and Asian companies that made it into the top 3 worldwide sales from October 2019 to September 2020. The Partner Award will be given to Japanese/Asian games that record high sales worldwide and had noteworthy results, such as player numbers.

Two Special Awards will be awarded to two titles with different criteria for each. One will be given to a title developed by a non-Japanese/Asian company that recorded the highest sales in Japan and Asia from October 2019 to September 2020. The other will go to a title developed in Japan or Asia in conjunction with SIE Worldwide Studios with the most worldwide sales within the same period.

The PlayStation Partner Awards 2020 Japan Asia will be broadcast on December 3, 2020.
