No official statement was issued explaining why the PlayStation forums are being shuttered. It is a universal closure, however. In addition to the North American site, the statement was shared on the European one.

As for where people can go, both the North American and European sites are directing people to different Sony resources like Facebook, Instagram, the PlayStation Blog site, and Twitter.

In the past, Sony has offered different ways for fans to connect. For example, there was PlayStation Home, which allowed people to have an avatar, build up a virtual living space, engage in experiences, and interact. There was also a PlayStation Communities app for mobile devices, to allow people to exchange information.

Currently, at the PlayStation forums, there are areas where people can have general discussions, get support, offer feedback on the forums, and talk about specific games and series like Farpoint, God of War, Gran Turismo, Helldivers, inFamous, The Last of Us, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, Sound Shapes, and Uncharted.

The PlayStation forums will close on February 27, 2020.
