The PlayStation 4 console has reached 112.3 million units in worldwide shipments. Sony Interactive Entertainment reported its latest financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2020.
In the last quarter (Q4 2019) the PlayStation 4 shipments reached a total of about 110.4 million units shipped worldwide. With the added 1.9 in the latest quarter, it adds up to 112.3 million units for the total. The 1.9 million units moved during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2020 is much lower than the 3.2 million units shipped during the same term from the previous fiscal year. However, there was an increase in sales for both full game software and first party titles. A whopping 91 million full game software sold for the PS4 and 18.5 million was from first party titles. The digital download ratio of PS4 games also boosted up to the highest it’s ever been with 74% which we can attribute to the COVID-19 lockdown.
Q1 2020 also saw a significant increase in PlayStation Plus subscribers. The previous quarter was at the highest it’s been in years with 41.5 million subscribers as of March 31, 2020. The latest quarter went beyond with 44.9 million subscribers as of June 30, 2020.
The PlayStation 4 first released in November 2013 in North America and Europe, followed by a Japanese launch in February 2014.
