As shown in the above chart, the PlayStation 4 has sold a total of 8.1 million units during the third quarter of the fiscal year. That’s about 900,000 less than the 9 million units it sold during the third quarter of the previous fiscal year. While there’s been an increase in software sales, the impact of decreased PS4 hardware sales were felt.

The total was at 86.1 million units of worldwide PS4 shipments in the previous quarter, so with the added 8.1 the total is now at 94.2 million units worldwide. As for the forecast of the fiscal year, it remains unchanged from what we saw in its previous quarter.

The PlayStation 4 first released in November 2013 in North America and Europe, followed by a Japanese launch in February 2014.
