Sony Interactive Entertainment shared the latest sales performance for the PlayStation 4 console in the financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018.
As shown in the above chart, during the 2017 fiscal year, Sony shipped 19 million PlayStation 4 consoles, about a million less than it did during the 2016 fiscal year. During the fourth quarter, Sony shipped 2.5 million PS4 consoles. The last update we had was 76.5 million earlier this year, and the total now sits at 79 million.
The last known figure of the PlayStation 3 console was around 80 million total, so we’ll see PS4 make the leap on the next quarterly results. However, it’ll unlikely surpass the PS2 in its lifetime, as it was last record to have sold approximately 155 million units as of March 2012.
We also got an updated number of PlayStation Plus subscribers, which was at 31.5 million as of December 31, 2017. The latest financial results shows an update of 2.7 million more, which now puts it at 34.2 million subscribers worldwide as of March 31, 2018.
The PlayStation 4 first released in November 2013 in North America and Europe, followed by a Japanese launch in February 2014.
